It's been real, thanks Blogger! Hey thanks for checking out this page! After 10 years of posting here and over 600 posts, it's time to try something new at over possibly greener pastures. Which means you can now find me and all my random adventuring ways over at One Man Many Plans .

Importing a car into China can be a taxing affair

So you've seen the car of your dreams and scratched together enough coin to make it yours. Only it's not available locally - so what's a car fan to do?

Get it imported in of course!

Want!
...Unless you leave in China in which case it's actually less painful to shoot yourself in the testicles with a staple gun as this unfortunate car fantatic found out the hard way...

The car pictured above is a Koenigsegg Agera R and apart from causing massive friction in supercar fans underware collections, it's pure sex on road. So much so that one Chinese businessman with a lust for super Swedish metal decided to go one better and had a one off Koenigsegg Agera R BLT built just for him. (What does the BLT stand for? Probably not the traditional Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwhich as first thought...)

Not this, as tasty as it looks.
This. Just as tasty and much faster.
According to Boldride.com he spent an envious bit over 2 million for his dream car...but tried to ship it into China unnoticed as to avoid paying the ludacris import tax.

How ludacris? Well the bill would likely spring to around the 5 mil mark. So yes, pay for two supercars roughly and only receive one. And since one off Koenigsegg Agera R BLT's don't magically fall from the sky in China (they don't, we checked), it's arrival in port was about as subtle as a Vuvuzeala at full bore right against your eardrum.
Since the tax wasn't paid, it's been confiscated and marked as smuggled goods. Not the first time in the Chinese imported automotive world (there's a few luxury marques that have tried the same thing) and probably not the last.

We just hope that a) this poor bloke actually finally ends up behind the wheel of his auto lust after all this heartbreak (an expensive excercise but if he can ship this over, surely he can spring it free) and b) they don't dispose of it like a shipping container full of Colombian pure and burn it to the ground...

(Out of interest on ways of avoiding the import tax, we did wonder if there was such a thing as a locally made Supercar you could buy if you did call China home and didn't want to pay double to ship something in. There is: The Geely GT Tiger. Behold:

Nice and all...but we'd fight for the one off Koenigsegg Agera R BLT anyday...)
