In the garden the pen is mightier than the sword

Well it is when it comes to fixing jammed up whipper snippers...

Hours of fun in your own lunchbox!

My first Mame arcade project was a raging success  eventually marred by the fact that my cabinet weighed a tonne and wasn't practical to cart up with us from Melbourne to the Gold Coast. So I sold it. My second attempt at building something slightly smaller here on the GC (A control base to plug into a computer) resulted in a lot of carved plywood and a big mess. I eventually scrapped it not having the current facilities to finish it up. (I finished the top half roughly) My third Mame project? A raging success again only far smaller and stupidly cheap to boot..

Lord of the (dead) flies.

Warning: If you don't like dogs and even more so the poo they produce, then this post is not for you. No it's not a trick, I'm not trying to warn you away and then reward those that hang about with amazing pictures of gorgeous women - this post involves dog poo. Who's a good doggie? Courtesy of our lovable family border collie Savannah. Right, fair warning sent out, on with the post!

Operation BBQ ressurection

I've been wanting a weekend project for quite some time since moving to the Gold Coast and finally with a free weekend up my sleeve and the hankering to get messy with a couple of afternoons of DIY, I found a suitable candidate. A 6 burner hooded BBQ that really needed a second lease on life. So...Almigo to the rescue then! Turns out (once again) that it was quite the adventure,

I'm building a computer. Brace for impact.

So I'm building a computer at the moment and in my usual 'nothing goes to plan' plans, funnily enough nothing has gone to plan...

From now on, we just eat everything raw..

If you're a long term reader of this blog then you'll know that when I have a major plan, nothing actually goes to plan. There ends up being more twists and turns than a road through Japanese highland country. This time around it involved the kitchen and a couple of cooking essentials..

A home made horse tougher than a two dollar steak

This week I got my muscles crushed, ended up in casualty (totally unrelated) and built the roughest and toughest looking horse possible. Rougher than this thing. Oh and I might start collecting razors in order to make me a millionaire.

It lives to destroy again

Now I don't want to alarm you or the rest of the world....but last week I managed to resurrect a dead mower. Please keep this to yourself as the last thing I need is hordes of people on my doorstep, begging for me to lay my hands on their mowers...

Hook, line and smoker.

It's not every day you get invited to a bbq with a fire fighter and a German ex death metal bassist. Even better,  it was the unveiling of a brand new smoker in a bbq of truely epic proportions and a truly memorable way to spend Easter Saturday. Feed. Me. MORE! This is how I like to spend my public holidays..

Chin up Charlie and ramp up the little things

Rough times at the moment? Feel like you need a confidence/energy/life boost? Here's a few little things I like to focus on when things go a little south. Maybe they'll help you too get back to where you want to be :)

10 random thoughts of an old car owner..

As a car owner of nothing past the year 1994, these are thoughts I have often. Can you relate to any yourself?

It's a trap! (For the bathroom)

Don't you hate when you've been wrestling with a problem for a couple of days and finally in a 'I'll try this and if it doesn't work I'm going to burn the whole f'n thing down' moment when you're completely at your wits end, you brain suddenly farts an answer that was probably staring at you right in the face from the very first second? I've just had a hallelujah moment so big I just sprouted a pair of wings with nary a can of red bull in sight. Praise brain fart, amen. And I've also come to loathe poorly written instructions at the same instance for this very reason...

The not so handyman's guide to weeds in your gravel driveway

Nothing kills a nice gravel pit in your own driveway than a bunch of dole budging weeds truly believing that your car runway is actually their permanent halfway house.  Case in point, my Lexus catwalk: home of Weedtopia. Horrific! Oh the weedmanity! Yep, it's enough to stop passing Ferraris making a beeline for your carport. So what's a clean driveway wanting car fanatic to do? Well thankfully I've found an item found in the common shed that sucker punches unwanted weeds right in the fun bits and then dances on their graves. And this wonderfully common item is....

Toddlers, the mortal enemies of Zucchini

I have made quite the scientific discoveries this week: 1. Zucchini sprouts when looked after can be tougher than $2 steak 2. I know this because I have a two year old who is hell bent on their imminent destruction. This is he.

When the shed hits the fan

So I'm renovating my shed at the moment. And when I say 'I'm' I really mean that Baz my father in law is doing a lot of the important stuff while I grab tools, try to make myself useful when holding things and try my hardest not to get in his way. So far so good. Yeah, she ain't pretty yet.. Except there's a few things we've found so far that really makes no sense whatsoever..
