My thoughts are random, my memories occasionally vague. Today I'm remembering three things related to Australian TV and it's brought up three burning questions I might need your help in answering..

Not you Sophie Lee, I remember your name. |
I'm going to jot down all I remember before going to for a Google, that way I can see how close or completely far off the mark I was. However if you've got any of your own memories/knowledge to add please feel free to drop it in a comment below!
QUESTION 1 - HOW LONG DID DAVID TENCH LAST? (SOLVED!)
Here's what I remember:
-Animated interviewer with big hair and a suit on channel 10 that was supposed to change the face of
talk shows forever (was that the tag line?)
-Late 90s?
-a former colleague once told me it was the possible brainchild of Andrew
Denton
-special guests (that I remember) were Grant Hackett and Shane Warne
-it lasted no more than a few weeks and disappeared into the ether
-I've never seen an animated host talk show since
Here's what I've found on the internet:
Okay so I got the channel correct (Ten) but forgot that the show's official name was David Tench Tonight.
He was created by Andrew Denton, so cheers to whoever told me that.
Drew Forsythe was the voice of Tench.
Tench actually came from some of 'CHannel TEN' so there you go.
According to the show list, neither Warne or Hackett ever appeared on the show! (What the hell am I remembering then??)
It lasted 16 weeks which is a lot longer than my hazy memory remembers. Apparently there was a Christmas ep too! And incredibly, someone dug it up and popped it up on Youtube!
Case: CLOSED. I got my answer, it lasted 5 months even though Channel 10 originally committed to 26 episodes all up. Strange that I thought it disappeared pretty quickly.
QUESTION 2 - WHAT WAS ON BIG SQUARE EYE? (SOLVED)
Here's what I remember:
-Abc kid show,
possibly hosted by Eden Gaha (or was that the Afternoon show, later taken over
by Michael Tunn?) that played a lot of cartoons and things.
-Late 80s from memory
-Was this the show that played episodes of the Canadian comedy series 'You
can't do that on television' and 'Your mother wouldn't like it' amongst other things? Or was that
The Afternoon show?
-What else have I missed here?
Here's what I've found on the internet:
So it turns out I've missed the mark completely with this one, because Big Square Eye wasn't a show with other shows, it was a game show!
Although watching the opening on Youtube, there's nothing familiar coming back to me at all! It was from 1992, I was 12 then and I can understand if someone of it was unfamiliar but yeah there's nothing jogging my memory here...however after reading this..
Big Square Eye is an Australian children's game show aired on ABC TV from 1991 until 1992 and was repeated one last time in 1993. It was hosted by Bob La Castra, with future musician Paul Mac as "Knuckles" McDermott on keyboard and sound effects. The programme aired on weekdays just after 5 pm as part of the Afternoon Show programming block.
The premise of the program was that each episode had celebrity guest judges which particular skills which they would demonstrate to the children in the audience. Contestants were selected from the audience to attempt a challenge which involved the celebrity guest's skills to their satisfaction. Guest judges included artist Ken Done, entertainer Jeanne Little, and cricketer Mark Waugh
...I do remember an episode where they had a bricklayer teaching the kids how to lay bricks! (Also I interviewed Paul Mac many years later when he was part of the Dissociatives along with Daniel Johns from Silverchair, having to idea he was part of this)!.
The good news is, a quick look at the Afternoon Show lineup in that info dump above shows that I was partially correct, both You Can't Say That on Television and Your Mother Wouldn't Like It did air on the Afternoon Show.
Eden Gaha never hosted the show though?
(Ahh, he was part of Vidiot! That's where I remember him! Thanks Wikipedia)
Case: CLOSED. My mind has managed to mash up a couple of shows and presenters but it's all come untangled now. Just one more random reccolection to reveal..
QUESTION 3 - WHO WAS THE HEAVILY PROMOTED EXPERT ON RAISING A CHILD AND WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS SHOW? (UNSOLVED)
Here's what I remember:
Name unknown
-An expert on child raising that was heavily promo'd as having methods that were completely unorthodox
-black curly hair and possible British (or New Zealand, although I may be confusing him with another New Zealand talk show host that ended up on Australian TV for a very short while.)
-in the promo he gave a thumbs down and stuck his tongue at conventional child reading wisdom. I think he was reading a newspaper at one stage?
-Channel 9 or 7
-Definitely not Supernanny
-Mid to late 90s maybe? When I was still watching a lot of TV
-As heavily promoted as this was, did the show actually ever air and what happened to the expert?
Here's what I've found on the internet:
Lots of links to Suppernanny of course, not Jo Frost at all.
This guy isn't Dr Justin Coulson (Is this the same JC from Ace Radio back in the day??)
Really not much, surely I'm not the only one who remembers him?
Case: WIDE OPEN. Anyone have any idea who he is/was?
FROM YOUR INPUT SO FAR:
Nothing to do with Ian Hewson (Thanks Brixey, although I think you mean Iain Hewitson the celeb chef..)
