Well the good news is some of my horses are racing again this weekend!
(Next update coming later this week, stay tuned!)
The bad news is, I still have to find 6 replacements for those who aren't..
Sigh, never a quiet day for a lunatic horse owner is there?
WHO'S IN?
After landing in a very handy 2nd last round THE CHOSEN ONE backs up again for another round, reading to go number 2 or better in the Caufield Cup.
Unfortunately the only other runner I have is BARGAIN who really hasn't done much over the last four races. Maybe I'm on the hunt for 7 new horses for my lineup then?
Jockey HOLLAND is also ready to rock and roll and hopefully he'll have a better run this week (or he's out!)
WHICH MEANS WE NOW SAY GOODBYE TO:
TOFANE
PROBABEEL
NEVER BEEN KISSED
PRIX DE TURN
KIKI EXPRESS
LONSDALELIETE
Leaving me with a very cool $1,325,000 back in the bank to go horse shopping with.
Edit: BARGAIN now also joins the cut list to free up an extra 200k to fill out the back line.
MASKED CRUSADER - The big winner of round 1 and former captain of Much Horsepower comes back to hopefully romp it in again and boost up the points tally. Sadly this one seems to be the only horse from my original list racing this weekend, which means it's back to pot luck picking with what's available and racing this weekend on the market.
AND THE NEW COLTS/FILLIES/CENTAURS JOINING THE FOLD ARE:
EXPLOSIVE JACK - Picked purely for my son Jackson and his occasional tantrum involving a) not wanting to go to school and b) not wanting to get off the computer when playing Minecraft with his cousins. If this horse can explode across the finish line like Jackson stomps around the house on occasion, we'll have a surefire winner!
MASTER OF WINE - With my dad's birthday recently (who was the Master of Wine) I just could not go past this one. Not only that but Holland the jockey is riding him so there's another reason to cheer on this German horse right to the finish line. Like Kiki Express last week, I've made this one my omen bet and have every finger, toe and knee hair crossed for this one.
GLINT OF HOPE - How I pick all my horses, with a glint of hope. And one eye on the odds at the time.
I LIKE BIG PUTTS - Seriously, how could you not? And I'm rubbish at golf!
INVINCIBLE NINJA - Again, it's got winning horse name all over it. Sounding like one hell of an end of level boss, hopefully it doesn't stand back and wait for other horses to grab a power up..
TURN IT UP TOMMY - Having just finished the latest episode of Peaky Blinders, this is my equine tribute to the very complex character that is Tommy Shelby. I watched the last episode of Blinders and then went straight into the first ep of Squid Game on the same night, no wonder my heart was having a hyperactive dance party.
So now we have 4 x Group 1 runners, 3 x Group 3 entrants and in a first, 1 handicap race horse (the Ninja). In the immortal words of Jeremy Clarkson 'What could go wrong here?'
WEEKEND UPDATE aka WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
Like one of those 1950's cars still kicking in Cuba, coupled together with whatever parts are available this round had bits both good and bad. And like most of my ideas, most of it was bad..
Once again MASKED CRUSADER was right on point, nipping 2nd and bringing in a much needed 32 points in its efforts. THE CHOSEN ONE however blew a turbo in the Caulfield Cup and landed in 14th while MASTER OF WINE in the same race ended up a couple of spots ahead of it (meaning my bet didn't pay anything) and also managed to score a total of no points. Oh wait, I almost forgot EXPLOSIVE JACK who was also in the cup and did even worse with 17th place.
You don't get Jack coming in 17th.
You don't get Jack coming in 17th.
INVINCIBLE NINJA somehow turned invisible and got scratched. TURN IT UP TOMMY dragged itself over the line for a measly 1 point while I LIKE BIG PUTTS completely forgot to show up.
The only other good news (and there really wasn't much in this weekend) was that GLINT OF HOPE gave more than a glint and landed 3rd for 18 points.
HOLLAND the jockey had three races, only scoring a single point amongst them...
Bleh, not all the cheap champagne in the owners club is going to remove the bad taste in my mouth after this round.
We're really going to need a horse related miracle to catch up with Tyson now...
