Sigh, after last weeks rubbish round it seems my fondness for picking strong horse names isn't translating into much needed points. Who could have predicted that? So this time around I'm working my way down the list of winning nags and grabbing what I can in my slightly reduced budget...
WAIT, REDUCED BUDGET?
Yes. When a horse does a rubbish run, its value can drop. And so like buying a car, after time it's not worth as much as you paid for it. Which means selling my collective field now means less to work with than usual - but I can still pick some winners, I hope.
So let's see who is flying the flag for Much Horsepower this time around!
GUESS WHO'S BACK?
MASKED CRUSADER
Returning for yet another run for the team, the Masked one is ready to romp it in and make $100 notes fall from the roof of the horse float. Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration but I for one am very happy this one is racing again and racing as part of my team!AND JOINING THE MASKED ONE (A WHOLE BUNCH OF NAGS I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT!)
STANDOUT
Okay I'll admit that I would have picked this one anyone on the strength of the name alone but it just so happens that Standout was high on the list of successful horsies this year. So here's hoping it's a standout for me! (possibly not knowing my luck but we'll see!)
BIG PARADE
As opposed to a small parade? Anyway, since it fits the criteria of horses racing this weekend it makes the list.
JUST FOLK
I'm not into folk music to be honest. Or is this name referring to folk that are just? Gah, too confusing. Just run a good race, bring me some good points and we'll forget all about your puzzling name okay?
PRIDE OF JENNI
Who is Jenni? Is she from the block? Should I be fooled by the rocks that she's got? I haven't a clue. Anyway, it's a horse and that's a start.
KALLOS
Possibly not the ancient Greek word for 'Callous' but that's my idiot idea and I'm sticking to it.
FORGOT YOU
'You've been riding around town with this guy I knew and I'm like...forgot you...and forgot him too!' Okay that's not exactly how the song goes but hey, it's close to CeeLo Green's work so we'll go with that.
GUNSTOCK
I know this is part of a gun but honestly a speeding bullet would probably be a better choice. Since there wasn't one available though, Gunstock will have to do!
J MCDONALD

Random J McDonald from Google Image search. |
Finally I am having no luck with jockeys at all and so I just randomly picked one near the top of the list. So welcome to the fold...eh...whoever you are!
Right, so that's the team this week...stay tuned to how they all went!
THE (LONG AWAITED) RESULTS!
So I've been really busy this week and completely glossed over the fact that I needed to pick a new set of horses for Melbourne Cup day! I mean the app did warn me at one stage but both life and work got in the way and I missed that boat completely (sigh). It also means that now getting the weekend's results is a touch more difficult because the racing world moved on. But after pushing a few buttons and talking to a few virtual jockeys:
MASKED CRUSADER - 20 POINTS
STANDOUT - 18 POINTS
J MCDONALD (THE JOCKEY) - 15 POINTS
BIG PARADE - 14 POINTS
FORGOT YOU - 14 POINTS
JUST FOLK - 12 POINTS
KALLOS - 0
GUNSTOCK - 0
Okay, so not a bad round at all considering. STANDOUT lived up to it's name, GUNSTOCK failed to fire. J McDonald brought in some decent Jockey points and since he was the only one who did anything cup day, I also got points for his efforts there.
Unfortunately Tysonic Hedgehogs is leagues ahead of everyone else currently and will be impossible to catch up to unless he has some massive back luck. Tim on the other hand...
Hopefully I'll remember to pick horses for the next round in time! Stay tuned!
