Don't let the possible rain dampen your personality and it turns out a smokehouse for kids isn't what I thought it was - the more you know!
THE WORD I WAS GOING FOR WAS 'ENTHUSIASM'
As in 'Don't let the chance of rain this weekend dampen your enthusiasm for the upcoming Beachworth High Country Hop this Saturday' but as an occasional peril of live radio, I told people not to let the rain dampen their personality instead for some reason. Clever me.
Still, a great opportunity to have a laugh at my own expense.
DO I HAVE A HERO THOUGH?
The world celebrated the life and times of cricketing legend Shane Warne last night via a huge memorial service at the MCG and that led us to ask on the show 'Who's your sporting hero?'
Confession time, I wasn't a sporting nut as a kid. Sure I grew up in the heady times of basketball trading cards and everyone wearing a Bulls tops (if I had to pick a team for any bball related chat completely out of my depth it was either the Celtics or Pheonix) but I was big into the wrestling back then so while people were championing Jordan, Pippen, Barkley, Boags and the like, I was cheering on the Legion of Doom and Bret Hart. I didn't have any team photos up on my bedroom wall (I had a couple of Elle McPherson calendars though..) and there hasn't been anyone in a sporting field that I'm super knowledgeable about.
I have however had the opportunity to chat to a few sporting greats along the way though so in lieu of a personal sporting hero, I have enjoyed a catch up or two with a few racing greats like John Bowe, Mark Webber (I think) and Mark Winterbottom.
And I did jump on the Jordan train after watching the Last Dance on Netflix. I get the hype now all these years on..
I'VE GOT THE POWER!
I ordered my son Jackson a power supply for the PC I'm building him and relayed the tale on the show today of the great adventure my package has been on. It started off in Adelaide, came to Melbourne, jumped right over Albury to get to Sydney and then spent a little time on the outskirts there. Then it moved to Canberra who had no idea what to do with it so they sent it back to the outskirts who were of the same confused mind and who sent it back...to Canberra. There was one final stop back in Sydney for no reason I can fathom before landing here in Albury ready for delivery.
Had it not arrived today I was certain our power supply unit would have hit international waters soon enough because why not? It's been pretty much everywhere else but here so far..
KIDS AND CABANA
Lu's husband Michael was part of the show today explaining the going on's at this Saturday's Leneva fire station open day. Free BBQ, safety demonstrations, fire engines on display and a smokehouse for the kids.
I had visions of (and shared them on air naturally) of kids in a small smokehouse working on some smoked meat, like chicken, pulled pork and cabana. Turns out it's an interactive display teaching them to get down low and crawl through a smoke filled house.
The more you know!
TOMORROW: CHOCOLATE
Flock of 80's Friday time again (wow that came around quick) and we're getting into the greatest chocolate bars of the 80s. Were it the 90s, I would have said the now non-existent Cadbury Crave bar but since we're sticking with the decade before, I think mine would have to be Mars. Loved them then, still love the occasional one today especially one that's spent a bit of time in the freezer...
Chat then!
