The breakfast radio diaries 019: Put a hat on a cat

We wanted to do 80s wedding songs but it wasn't to be. Instead we found out if you put a hat on a cat, gave away even more cheesecake and got ready for the weekend instead.

This post is Sir Purrkins approved!

SOMETIMES THERE'S NO TALK FOR A TOPIC

Either nobody remembers their 80's wedding song (I mean if you tied the knot back in 1989 that was 33 years ago now so you can be forgiven if it doesn't spring to mind right now) or they missed the question we put up on Facebook overnight completely. Either way we dropped the idea and moved onto Pet birthdays - and it seems plenty across the Border region between NSW and VIC love to celebrate their pets getting a little older and a little wiser each year. Lu does, she's mad about cats. Ask about her rag dolls but make sure you can a long drink on hand.

Not me though. The dog (sadly no longer with us) used to get a new chew toy at Xmas, the cat however gets nothing but my scorn each and every early morning when I'm trying to sleep and she's doing the dance of the annoying feline..

IT STARTED WITH A TAKE AWAY PIZZA

Many moons ago, circa 2004 or 2005 if memory serves, I'd just started my first week at radio station number #4 in my career (current count #7 I've worked in the offices of and that's not counting any station I've been networked too since then) and the promotion manager gave me some prizes to giveaway - basically vouchers for a $7.95 take away pizza.

'Who the hell would want to one of these?' I scoffed.

Well turns out the joke was well and truly on me because the phones almost melted down for the chance to win one. And it really put things into perspective from there involving prizes to be won.

Fifty bucks worth of petrol is worth exactly that, fifty bucks. However if you're giving away fifty dollars in cash strangely, it's nowhere near as popular as offering up the chance to win the petrol. Sure the fifty dollar prize is far more versatile - I mean you can even buy petrol with it! But no, more people want the petrol.
What's more appealing that gas though? Food. People love food. We could give away the chance to win $20 and nobody would care.
A voucher for a cheesecake worth roughly the same though? Game time baby!

And so it's come as no surprise that the phones light up like a Christmas tree giving away cheesecakes for morning tea across the week. And more of it to come next week too!

I mean aside from the lactose intolerant, who doesn't like cheesecake?

ACTION PACKED WEEKEND

Okay so it wasn't as big as last weekend with the Monster Trucks and the Rubens, the repair cafe and the Leneva fire station 75th anniversary - but this one has some lawnmower racing going on, Ross Wilson playing at a winery and a couple of big days celebrating living off the grid in a small town known as El Dorado.

Oh and if you happened to walk past Albury's latest bedding store on the Saturday morning, well you may just have caught a glimpse of two breakfast announcers in their Jim Jams, spruiking up the place.

The adventures you go on in radio hey?

Chat soon!

The true meaning of Flo Rida's song 'Whistle'..

The whistle song? What's it about? Read on! Controversial I know but I'm about to reveal the true meaning behind the Whistle song by Flo Rida. Why? Because I'm getting the general feeling that people around me are really missing the true spirit of Mr Rida's epic masterpiece... We're getting right into the real Flo, yo. After all this time, it's still all about that wisal baby song!

Mortal Engines for the Emperor!

Now maybe it's just me and maybe I've read far too much into the Warhammer 40K lore and universe...but I'm seeing a lot of parallels between it and the now available on Netflix movie Mortal Engines..

Please don't ignore this massage

It's been a while between scam emails - life has been life, work has been hectic, I've been grunting and sweating my way through my exercise sessions and so I've been putting responding to random idiots through my email on the back burner.  Until today when I was kindly asked not to 'ignore this massage.' I hope it's a hot stone one! Trust me, I NEVER ignore a massage. Better set the record straight then...
