Sadly not a timely remix of the classic 90's jam from Living Color but an update on studio life at the moment. Lu's out with Covid, our back up Rohan has also taken a hit and I'm doing the impossible mission of getting an empty room to react to anything.
LIKE MOST THINGS, IT WORKS BETTER WHEN THERE'S SOMEONE ELSE INVOLVED
I have nothing but the utmost respect for one person breakfast shows (hey Moffee) because it's an art form in itself talking to an empty room for three hours, making it interesting and keeping it relevant. No one noticeably reacts to your wise cracks, nobody can jump in and steer the ship if you're a late return from your toilet break and you're a one man/woman/person/machine machine when it comes to competitions with many moving parts.
Thankfully this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to days of talking to walls. This morning I had flashbacks to my first breakfast stint and those times when my co-host (hey Alex) was away on holiday or out of action for any reason - they were long shows and a chore sometimes, especially if there was nothing to talk about or nothing to give away.
Imagine this was the studio only far more high tech and jam packed with equipment and myself. |
Luckily too, it's a busy week with things going on like our Border Monopoly going on, our Mothers Day competition, the text line and all the usual guests dropping by to speak on their respective fields. Lots and lots of things to fill the gap between songs with.
SPEAKING OF SPEAKING
Our resident TV guru Molky let us know that the national leaders debate in the run up to the election is hitting the free to air side of TV coming up on Sunday...except it's not really a debate. It's more an hour long opportunity for journalists in attendance to ask questions.
So really it's a press conference.
Which happens all the time anyway.
I guess the point of difference here is that the candidates will be in the same room so there may be a bit of mud slinging from both sides naturally but either way I'm sure I'll be finding something far more exciting to do at that time like airbrush some racing stripes on my collection of mowers or learning to play Beethoven's fifth on the banjo.
Maybe even building my own banjo, who knows the week is young after all.
IT'S COLD OUT THERE
On the way to work I pass the Elders building (it's about farm life, not a tribal hut full of wise ancient ones) in East Albury which not only informs me if I'm slightly late with a clock update on the roof but also lets me know what the temperature is while the Subi swings around the roundabout (and points out how inaccurate my own in car temperature gauge is because like the engine, it hasn't warmed up yet.)
Today it was flashing up 3. Just a lowly 3 degrees.
(For those who prefer your F's over our C's, that's 37.4 Fahrenheit)
I joked with some family friends over dinner on the weekend that we weren't too far away from those 'ice on your windscreen' moments of the year but after see that this morning, I think we're closer to it than anyone thought..
FINALLY, TRY ITALY ON A PLATE
No literally, that's the name of the Italian Restaurant in Wodonga. Kids loved the pizza, my wife Donna loved the Marinara (it comes with some claw crackers so you can really enjoy the crab pieces) while I found the beef and pork ragu divine. We're slowly getting across the restaurant side of the Border and having an amazingly good time doing it.
Right, better get set to fly solo again tomorrow!
Chat then
