Look, I've felt better..
THE SHOT I DIDN'T HAVE VS THE SHOT I WANTED TO
I don't think it's Covid related (No symptoms there yet) but you know that feeling you get after your yearly flu shot when you feel a little run down? I'm feeling like that currently, not crashing or falling into walls yet but certainly stuck in second gear. And it's not because of having an actual flu shot (although they were being administered in the building yesterday) more I think a rough sleep leading to a rough awake condition.
Incredibly even in my slow state (it took me quite a while this morning to sum up the energy to create the 10 questions for our free money minute) I found that autopilot was more than ready for the task. I'd open up my mouth and bang, off my voice went. By the time I stopped yabbering on and played a song, I wondered just where the hell that all came from.
It's a finely tuned radio autopilot, let me tell you and I'd be completely lost without it.
I'm in such a sluggish state today that I couldn't help but nod in agreement with Brandon's suggestion at the morning coffee via the cafe round the corner that today's brew would be improved out of sight with a shot of Kahlua in it.
Aka a Mexican coffee.
I can't begin to tell you the last time I sampled such a Kahlua flavoured delight it's been that long but naturally it led to thoughts of other coffee combinations. Such as coffee and Baileys Irish Cream: Oh god, I can taste the smoothness already..
Which led to the classic Irish coffee with a bolt of purely medicinal whiskey in it..
Which would possibly help my lethargic run down condition right now...but next I found myself chatting away about my favourite shot of all time from my teenage clubbing days, the QF featuring Baileys, Kahlua and a layer of Midori in the middle to keep them from fighting.Sadly the coffee I did order had none of those extra elements but along with some cold and flu tablets and a bowl of museli, has made me feel slightly better so that's a thing.
'I THREW DOWN MY STICKS AND RUSHED BACK TO MY SEAT'
Adam Weston from Birds of Tokyo was my special guest on the show today, off the announcement that the band would be touring with Keith Urban in December. During our chat we learnt how good the feeling was not to have to be in completely different buildings when recording anymore, all about their new song Smith Street (it was based on Smith Street Collingwood which I'm very familiar with having grown up in the next suburb over in Richmond but it's a song about the various "Smith Streets" in every town) and how pumped he gets playing as the entertainment during an AFL Grand Final.
Turns out as a footy tragic, as much as he loved being part of the half time entertainment, he couldn't wait to drop the drum sticks and race back to his seat just in time for the 3rd quarter to kick off.
That's footy for ya :D
FROM BAND TO SOLO STAR
To play as part of tomorrow's lineup, not only am I talking to Shane A all about movies to see as well as getting an update from Lu on how her time at home is going, but I'm also playing part of a chat I recorded up with Diesel earlier today.
And I say part of it because our conversation clocked in at well over 12 minutes which is completely normal when you get the opportunity to catch up with him. Passionate to the nth degree about music, recording and touring - I've always found him one of the most entertaining Aussie musos to interview and since he is performing in Albury this week, I jumped at the chance. We talked about the gig of course but also time in isolation, recording at home, being part of the Byron Bay Bluesfest this year, what he missed about the 80's and cabana and cheese.
Full chat going up on the podcast and I'll let you know when that's ready.
In the meantime I'm going to throw the oodie on (yeah I got one for Easter and as strange as I looked my walking breakfast tribute warmth suit, I can't deny how comfortable it really is), watch some more Orville, drink some tea and gaze and the liquor cabinet longingly, wishing I had some Kahlua and/or Baileys on hand.
Until next time!
