Lu's back, life is now easy(er). Also buskers, hackers and dud presents!
THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN
I've often joked to anyone willing to listen is that breakfast radio is a lot like your favorite past time. You can do it by yourself and there's nothing wrong with that whatsoever but the universe is agreement, it's better with two or more people getting involved. And far more entertaining to tune into, let's be honest.
The day goes quicker, the phone rings more often, you're a lot less tired at the end of not having to do everything.
Long story short, welcome back Lu. Please don't get another bout of Covid anytime soon. Kthanxbai.
CELEBRATING WHAT EXACTLY? THE FACT THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD DESPISES YOU CURRENTLY?
It was Victory Day in Russia yesterday which for the uninitiated, means: Known as Victory Day, May 9 is a national holiday in Russia commemorating the Soviet Union's defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, typically marked by an elaborate military parade in Moscow's Red Square surveyed by senior Kremlin officials.
And Putin has used this day to compared what happened then to what's happening now, as 'a necessary move to ward off potential aggression'. Undoubtedly believing the whole Ukraine invasion scenario would be all wrapped up by this Russian Holiday, Putin and co certainly weren't ready for any interruptions as various hackers had a field day with the Russian News services, posting up messages during the broadcasts such as:
“The blood of thousands of Ukrainians and hundreds of murdered children is on your hands,” read the message that took over their screens. “TV and the authorities are lying. No to war.”
Now normally the word 'Hackers' has your eyes rolling as you think back to the time when Uncle Ted's Facebook was hacked and strangely he started spouting ads for knock off RayBans or suddenly demanded thousands of dollars through CashApp or some such (those replica show pages using stolen photos also spring to mind) but in the midst of this pro-invasion propaganda, I'm applauding this one. Hack away kids, you're doing a great job.
In our in depth news chat with one of the newsroom crew, we also learnt that this Warmonger isn't looking as healthy or as strong as he usually does.
What a shame hey? Nobody has ever wanted Covid to come calling but I certainly do know one particular place I'd like to see it spring up next..
HERE, HAVE A DOLLAR
The Australian Busking Championship regional heats are happening in Rutherglen this Saturday and I wondered aloud about the prize money - the thousands to be won, is that an actual total or do you have to put out a hat or open instrument case and wait for the coins to come dropping in? :D
THE GIFTS THAT KEEP ON BEING RESOLD
Off the back of Lu's birthday today (40 again? Amazing!) We put it out to the Border - what's the worst gift you've ever unwrapped? We got:
-A DIY build your own radio kit. I actually scored this one, two years into my radio career by a well meaning Uncle. He suggested that if I didn't have access to a soldering iron (I didn't even know what one of those were at the age of 20, let alone know how to use one) to get one of the local engineers in the office to help me build it.
That didn't happen because I never took it out of its plastic pocket.
Funnily enough I do own a soldering iron now and would probably build it, just for shits and giggles. But it's been lost for the last 22 years so it's a moot point.
-Earrings. For someone who didn't have their ears pierced.
-A nose hair clipper. Joy.
-A pumice stone to grind your feet. For Christmas. Mother of god..
Time to go now, chat tomorrow
-Almigo
