It was raining when I woke up half an hour before the alarm went off, that oh so satisfying sound when you're in a warm bed, snuggled under a doona. Add that to the knowledge that I still had a solid 30 minutes to just lay there and drift in and out of sleep before it was game time - ahh bliss.
Then the alarm went off, there was the stumble around the darkened laundry to try and find some fresh clothes, a shower where I stood like a zombie, getting dressed in the dark and the slog up to the wet driveway to the car where there's just enough petrol to get me to work and back while I count down the hours to pay day tonight.
It's still raining as I write this but as they used to say, the show must go on!
ROCKS THAT ROLL, LITERALLY
So today we asked 'What would you like to own that technically you don't really need..'
My suggestion? An ultrasonic cleaner.
Now for the record, I don't really have the space for one nor an actual need right now to be the proud owner of an ultrasonic cleaner but one popped up in an episode of The Curse of Oak Island recently and it had me going 'Well that's cool that they used this to clean some crap of a bit of dug up metal, now I want one!'
And if I had one, I'd probably use it to clean my glasses and maybe some of Donna's jewelry and possibly even a small part off the Slowbaru...but then I'd get bored and it'd sit in the corner of the shed until the next time we decided to hold a garage sale..
Lu on the other hand has decided she wants a rock tumbler - which does exactly what it says on the box, it's a device that tumbles rocks. And the more these rocks tumble in said device, the smoother they become and eventually you've got a small pile of shiny rocks. Trouble is, it's not a quick process, taking a couple of weeks of 24 hour tumbler use to get them to this point.
We asked for other suggestions but instead found - a fellow rock hound!
Apparently that's the terminology for someone big into rocks and tumbling them and Belinda explained how she tried wire jewelry only to give that pretty quickly, buying a rock tumbler instead. Now she has two, an ever increasing pile of shiny rocks and thoughts on adding a third so she can have even more shiny rocks to the collection in even less time! Looks like Lu has found her rock tumbling soul mate..
IT STARTS WITH A BODY
Our movie guy Shane A let us know about a movie out now called Operation Mincemeat and his suggestion that it was the new updated version of Weekend at Burnies clued me in straight away about what it was - the famous true story of the body with fake documents used in the war! I remember reading about this war story years ago (more than likely through something like Damn Interesting) and now having seen the trailer, I'm kind of keen to get into this one!
What a shame movies like this weren't around during high school history back in the day. I would have preferred this to getting into the nitty gritty of the French revolution and their lack of pants for months on end.
WE GO BACK TO THE 80'S AGAIN TOMORROW
In a musical sense of course, it's not an opportunity to buy Apple shares from that time period sadly. Although today Apple did announce their iPod coming to an end.
Apparently you can still buy them in stores, the last model that came out back in 2019. I haven't seen one in the wild forever but yes, they're still a thing! Who knew?
Chat then
