The tale of a $20 ham sandwich, a $32 bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup and a tiny $15 taco..
COME AGAIN?
Inspired by the $10 democracy sausage we heard about yesterday (on offer in inner Sydney on election day which explains everything) and the recent $21 can of beer at a US gold tournament, we asked today about those stupidly expensive food and drink it's you've come across.
Back in 1988 in Switzerland, Lu and her husband bought a $7.50 ham sandwhich at a train station. Which seems completely normal in 2022 but inflation wise, that's actually close to a $20 sanga now which makes the original super pricey.
At the Jindera swap meet earlier this year, I was fleeced an eye watering $45 for three waffle cones with mixed lollies and I'm still smarting from it. That's the last time I buy something without a price on display.
From our Facebook page:
-A $32 bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup.
-$15 for a street food van taco. That was the price of one and apparently it was tiny.
-$10 for a jug of water at a German restaurant
-$14 for a humble chicken and salad roll
Good thing we didn't venture into the hilarious deconstructed anything that only the swankiest of cafe's like to offer..
ONYA LEE
Country music legend Lee Kernaghan joined us for a big chat about his latest couple of albums (greatest hits and live at the Deni Ute Music) as well as painting the picture of growing up in Albury and playing cover songs around the traps before things really took off music wise. From small towns to living in Lavington, we covered a lot of ground and the full chat is on the podcast ready to go.
Random fact: Lee and I used to work in the same building on the Gold Coast! Well more to the point that I was working at the station through the week and once a week he'd pop in from his house in Sanctury Cove to record up his weekend music show. I remember once or twice we'd say hi to each other in the hallway but nothing more than that and it's only now did I get to discover what a truly ripper bloke he is to interview. Very chatty and generous with his time, we call a ball catching up with him. Onya Lee, happy 30 years!
TOMORROW WE BREAK OUT THE GAMES
So our ten thousand dollar giant Monopoly game happens this weekend and in the lead up to it, we figured 'games' would be a great topic for our Fight For Your Flashback. The first obvious choice had to be this one by Chris Isaac which is a classic in my book:
However the songs we've chosen to duke it out are from an earlier time and I've opted for a hit out of New Zealand from the turn of the 80s while Lu has opted for something a little earlier still. The big reveal and hopefully another point in my win collumn, coming up tomorrow!
Chat to you then
