Some interviews are a one off. I once interviewed Brad Pitt's personal trainer about his book and he told the tale of working his obliques by swinging a ten pound bar repeatedly into a heavy bag. Then there's someone like Diesel who I've chatted to/interviewed many times, each and everytime just as good as the last.
Today fell into that later category because I remember chatting to this bloke years ago about a cancer fund-raiser, after taking on Australia via unicycle.
The cycle has been replaced by a big car this time but his passion for what he does is just as strong, if not stronger than it ever was. There's passion for life and then there's Samuel Johnson who just blows it right out of the water.
LOVE YOUR SISTER
He was in town for two fund-raisers, a comedy story night at Sodens (sold out) and big family fun day on Sunday. And in the time he spent hanging out in the studio he shared everything about the journey, recovering from a pretty nasty car accident last year (and hallucinating about a neck theif while in the ward) how much he loves petting zoos and what he's striving for, cancer trials to be made available for all.
What a life loving champion he is too, even after all that's happened. Just boundless enthusiasm from whoa to go and it was brilliant to see that in person as opposed to on the phone.
LET'S READ ALL AT THE SAME TIME
Later today was the simultaneous story time, a country wide initiative where people read the same story to kids in libraries, at the same time (dependent on time zones of course). As a big reader myself, I love the idea of this as anything that fosters the love of books in young kids is a great idea.
Although I'm wondering if this also extends to adults - I mean various people reading Hack Frost to groups around Australia at the same time would be pretty sweet :D
THAT'S IT FOR ME THIS WEEK
A shortened week on account of heading to Melbourne for family reasons for the next couple of days. And as much as I grew up here and loved it as city kid, I certainly don't miss the traffic.
But it's nice to refect on where I've been.
Chat again soon
