I stepped out of the shower this morning, promised myself 'today is going to be a good day', bent down to pick up some clothes on the floor and twanged a muscle in my back.
Fate really likes to throw in the random drop kick right to the plums some times.
THE REASON FOR THE PROMISE
I went to bed with my sinuses more congested than Melbourne rush hour and tossed and turned more than an out of kilter cement mixer. Which meant not only did I not sleep much, when I did I had mini work nightmares. Nothing to have me bolt wide awake in a pearl of sweat mind you, more the imaginary problems you realise don't actually exist when the alarms finally went off.
And aside from my back complaining this morning, today was kind of okay in the end.
THANK YOU FIRST RESPONDERS
While I haven't been in a situation yet where I've needed attention from any
wonderful first responder be they police, SES, paramedics etc, I've met plenty
and also seen first hand how much we can come to rely on them. Especially back
in 2009 when the Black Saturday bush fires ripped through Bendigo and for at
least four days it was all hands on deck.
We had round the clock
shifts on the radio, we did crosses from permitted areas pointing out where
you could and couldn't go, even my girlfriend now wife helped out with many a
food and drink run for everyone at the station. People tell me the broadcasts
were very helpful and I'm sure they were but it was the first respondents that
were beating back the flames, directing traffic and pulling people out of
burning houses. They worked tireless in incredibly trying conditions and it's
something I've never forgotten.
Today is Thank a First Responder day and that's exactly what we did, sharing our admiration of the people, both paid and volunteers that take on this challenges to keep us safe. If that's you, you're awesome and thank you.
NO LETTUCE, TRY CABBAGE
So with the climbing price and scarcity of the once humble iceberg lettuce,
KFC have looked to either add in part cabbage to the greens mix for their
chicken burgers and wraps or just go all cabbage depending on how much they
have on hand and apparently some KFC faithful are losing their minds.
Personally
I've never bought anything from the Colonel for it's exciting salad options
and found far more entertainment in something shared from The Project on
Facebook this morning: 'For many this is the first time they're discovering
KFC actually uses lettuce in their burgers..'
A BATTLE OF THE KINGS
Again Fight For Your Flashback went right off as Midnight Oil's King of the
Mountain (my choice) stomped a mud hole in the work of Sting and co in the
Police's King of Pain (if you haven't guessed, today's theme was Royalty on
account of the Silver Jubilee over the weekend.)
Hilariously I
noticed one Facebook reply of 'Anything but Midnight Oil's socialist ramblings
and spastic dancing' was quietly deleted and replaced by a simple 'The
Police.'
I wonder what made him think twice there?
Anyway, current scores Lu 6, Al 4. I'm on the comeback trail baby!
TOMORROW WE GO CAMPING!
Well we talk about going camping really. Based on the return of The Border Music Camp after a couple of years off thanks to Covid, it got us thinking of how much fun we had at school camp both in Primary and High School. And so tomorrow we're going to ask where the Border went camping through school, from Wilson's Prom to Wyoming (well possibly not Wyoming), Queenscliff to Queenstown.
And a shout out to anyone reading this who went to school at Mt Best. I was
billeted there years ago with a lovely family as part of a school camp and I
remember their tiny school had all of seven students in it.
Now
that was late 80s, early 90's so it's probably doubled by now..
Oh and I'm seeing Top Gun Maverick tonight as part of a work outing, full review coming up tomorrow!
Bring on Thursday!
