If you were an 80s kid going through the basketball card faze, remember the joy of coming across a Michael Jordan rookie card from the mid-80s? I mean I remember back in the early 90's that was worth a solid $100 which back then was a vast fortune, especially for a pre-teen.
And if you got rid of it back then whether by selling, trade or just losing the damn thing then I don't think you'll want to know what that little card is worth now..
OKAY, I'LL TELL YOU
50k-90k US.
I kid you not.
And if it happens to be signed, well there's retirement money right there good
to go because that's somewhere between 2 and 3 million according to this
recent article by Forbes.
Yeah ever since The Last Dance hit Netflix, there's been a bit of a
resurgence on Jordan memorabilia and I kind of understand it, even though I'm
not really a basketball fan (I'd tell people I followed Pheonix back in the
early 90's even though I'd never seen a game) that series was top notch and
you got to see just how good he was playing alongside other greats including
Pippen and Rodman back in the day.
But how did we get onto basketball cards?
WELL WE ASKED ABOUT WHAT YOU COLLECTED BACK IN THE 80'S
And our good mate Craig from the Ovens and Murray league got us started by
revealing that it was all about the bball cards for him. He didn't find
anything worth much back then but occasionally still brings them out for his
basketball loving son to enjoy to this day.
Louise loved her sticker
collection from the 80's so much that when she sold the family house, the
contract stated that the cupboard doors adorned with her collection were not
part of the sale. They're now on display in her shed out the back, still going
strong.
Lu collected stamps and remembers the fun of soaking them,
drying them and slotting into those sleeves in special books to marvel at
later.

I had Zanzibar back in the 80's and he was all shades of awesome. |
As for me? Wow I'd kill to have some of my 80's toys again - stuff like
Transformers, Tranzor-Z, Thundercats, G.I Joe, C.O.P.S, Bravestarr and the He
Man collection. I also had a fair collection of Mad magazines, the occasional
comic (still do), my stamp collection (it's still around somewhere) and a
couple of Garbage Pail Kid stickers.
Oh and I tried to collect
Basketball cards so I could make an easy 100 big ones back in the day but
sadly that never happened..
ALL HAIL THE CHIEF, I MEAN YOUR MAJESTY
I don't know when it started but I know it was a long time ago, the contracts
I'd sign that said I'd be working on public holidays, even if it was just for
a few hours. And that means I've worked my way through quite a lot of them
over the years.
This latest gig though? Not a thing. Public
holidays I now get off, giving me the time to spend with my family.
However given I'm still new to this, I haven't really planned anything much at all this long weekend. We'd go for a drive somewhere if every man and his dog wasn't doing the same. We'd check out a touristy place if everyone hadn't taken today (Friday) off to do exactly the same. We'd go to the beach...if there was one around.
Still, I can't really complain - idea of what to do or not, I'm grateful for the holiday. Your majesty if you do read this page (or have someone read it for you) then thank you so much for the chance to celebrate your birthday (whenever it actually is.) Oh and congratulations on your recent Silver Jubilee!

Back Tuesday perhaps!
