The Breakfast Radio Diaries 056: Park in the dark

I had weird dreams of angry grannies and ghostly apparitions in the studio. Eerily this morning all the lights were out in the car park and I half expected to be mobbed by zombies. I just realised I've got my t-shirt on backwards.

Oh and Lu's done her back, so it's just me flying solo today.

Good omens from here on in, surely?

PLAY IT AGAIN, ONE MAN BAND

I tried to get the phones firing nice and early but no, nobody wanted to play this morning even with the question 'What did you get rid of early?'

Off the back of 'What did you collect back in the 80's' it turns out a lot of that stuff we took for granted (like basketball rookie cards..) is worth quite a pretty penny nowadays. And in my case there's been a few things that I regret letting go off early (not that I could hold them until now but still..)

-My 1989 Mazda Rx7. I paid too much for what it was and it was falling to bits by the time I traded it for a Toyota Soarer but now prices are going up. And up. And up...

-My Dad's Datsun 260Z. Yes it spent quite a few years down the side of the house when he replaced it with a working Subaru WRX. And yes we sent it off to the wreckers when he passed because nobody had any idea what to do with it. And yes, I want to shed a tear when you see what current prices for Z car's are going for..

-My house. I made a tiny profit when I sold it to fund a move to Queensland. I'd make so much more if I sold it during Covid times..

Ahh, hindsight is a wonderful thing isn't it?

WELL RECEIVED

One of Albury's most colorful and awesome personalities

On a much better note, I got to congratulate Deputy Mayor of Albury Steve Bowen, one of the very worthy Order of Australia Medal recipients over the Queens Birthday long weekend. Of course none of them will ever say 'This is what I was aiming for' but they are grateful (and incredibly humble) that their tireless community work has been appreciated and good on them.

Sometimes we forget that there's a bit more to this long weekend than just a day off work and a shortened work week because of it.

CLEANING OUT MY CLOSET

No not the Eminem hit from way back when, over the long weekend I stupidly suggested that we clean out our own walk in closet so that Donna could finally hang up her clothes in there after a solid year and a half of the tiny room being used for storage. And I say 'storage' in the loosest of terms, it became more a place to throw in everything and anything in the most haphazardly fashion. Which mean to get to anything, you had to climb over something. Crates, clothes and even the cat at times, it was quite the mission to retrieve a shirt.

So we emptied it out completely and started all over again. And in a terrible case of wishful thinking, the 'two hour job' lasted two days and there's still stuff all over the place. Buuuuttt, now you can walk into the walk in closet. And there's clothes hanging up where they should be and a vague semblance of order.

And even if the cat wanders in while you're tutting over what to wear, you don't have climb over it to retrieve your one and only tie.

The living room now where we dragged everything out to be sorted...well that's a different story.

THEY FIGHT, WE WIN

I love a good battle when everyone else wins which means I'm thoroughly enjoying the punch on between OTR and Apco in West Wodonga as the two petrol stations try to woo customers away from each other. And they're doing that in the best way possible, with cheap petrol.

Okay, more cheaper petrol compared to the rest of the Border. $1.69 a litre for regular unleaded is pretty appealing if you're like me and the petrol warning light is on and not going anywhere in a hurry. Especially when everywhere else is currently charging upwards of $2 per litre.
Yes amusingly it does mean I've to drive over state lines to save when filling up but the car gets a bit of a run on the freeway, the battery gets a charge (and with these cold starts at 5am it needs it) and everybody wins.

Especially when I think of the last time I filled up outside Melbourne for an eye watering 2.16 a litre. If you needed a solid reason to work from home, there it is.

Speaking of, home time yet?

Cheers

-Almigo

The true meaning of Flo Rida's song 'Whistle'..

The whistle song? What's it about? Read on! Controversial I know but I'm about to reveal the true meaning behind the Whistle song by Flo Rida. Why? Because I'm getting the general feeling that people around me are really missing the true spirit of Mr Rida's epic masterpiece... We're getting right into the real Flo, yo. After all this time, it's still all about that wisal baby song!

Mortal Engines for the Emperor!

Now maybe it's just me and maybe I've read far too much into the Warhammer 40K lore and universe...but I'm seeing a lot of parallels between it and the now available on Netflix movie Mortal Engines..

Please don't ignore this massage

It's been a while between scam emails - life has been life, work has been hectic, I've been grunting and sweating my way through my exercise sessions and so I've been putting responding to random idiots through my email on the back burner.  Until today when I was kindly asked not to 'ignore this massage.' I hope it's a hot stone one! Trust me, I NEVER ignore a massage. Better set the record straight then...
