The Breakfast Radio Diaries 062: Would it kill you to smile?

I caught up with a dear friend over the weekend, sleep. And as a consequence, I didn't sleep much last nice which balanced the scales nicely. But it's a positive start to the week though as I may have solved my little foreign check problem, sorted any potential future problems with big payers and raised a bit of coin for a local charity...

THAT BIT OF PAPER GOING NOWHERE

On Friday I mentioned trying to cash my US dollar check/cheque thanks to Amazon around town only to be met with 'Look, we don't work with these things anymore..' And given this came as quite a surprise to me, I figured that was good enough to talk about on the show this morning.

Listener Clair heard it, did a quick Google then rang up and informed me that National Australia Bank might very well be my saviour here as they buy US checks (with fees attached, obviously.) And since there's a Nab business centre right across the road, well we might just have part one of this 'Once in a blue moon Amazon pays me in US Eagle Dollars' problem solved.

Part two of course is any future payments sent by cheque because I really don't want to be faced with even less options of cashing these damn things months, if not years in the future when the next one finally arrives. Luckily I asked on Twitter and the only reply I got was just what I needed:

Tracy, you're an absolute superstar.

On Saturday morning while in between coffees, I applied for a Payoneer account and before I'd finished the second one, I'd been approved! Suddenly I had a US account, a GBP account and even a EURO account ready to point payees like Amazon to.

What made this an even better idea was that once I'd put in these US bank details into Amazon KDP, a short time later I received an email that my US earnings were on the way.
Oh and my UK earnings.
Then this morning apparently my Canadian earnings from my book writing over the last four years was feeling a little left out of the payment party and was on its way too. (Hilariously over 4.bit years of working with this system, I've accrued a stonking $1.87 Canadian. Still, that's $2.10 AUD coming my way minus fees of course which is better than a double dropkick to the knees.)

Which ultimately means in the space of roughly an hour, I've suddenly unlocked a small bounty of earnings that would have been sitting there for god knows when, only to one day arrive in cheque form for even more cashing hassles.

Thanks Claire and Tracy, that's a lot of frustration sorted in one big hit!

NOTHING POSITIVE TO ADD HERE

Now for the non-wrestling loving part of the community here, this dashing fellow is Jim Cornette. Former wrestling manager/personality/booker/bit of everything over many decades and now wrestling podcaster through the highly entertaining Jim Cornette Experience. (Of which I am a big fan, I think he and the great Brian Last work really well together.)

I've got Corny in today's update for something he often remarks on his show, a phrase his mother was fond of saying: 'He wouldn't be happy if you hung him with a new rope.'

Because we're getting to the point of the show where no matter what we post socially, someone always has to come along and poo poo things or point out how everything sucks. And it could be something a simple as a question like 'What did you get up to on the weekend?' that will have people permanently stuck in negative gear to remind us again that they didn't do anything, life is terrible and there's nothing good going on in the world.
Or maybe they want to share their annoyance at the world that something we've stated that 'money can't buy' isn't available at the shops. Well of course it isn't, that would mean you could buy it with money yes?

I'm no doctor (I may have played one once to annoy Nigerian scammers though) but if you can't see the positivity in these posts, for the sake of your own mental health, maybe step away from social media? Turn off the PC, put down the mobile, talk to professionals about getting your happy times back, get out and enjoy some sunshine.
Because it's doubtful I'm the only one who wonders if you spend all day trawling Facebook for things to share your misery with. And we all know there's far more to life than social media people.

Like the good feeling that comes with helping out charity perhaps?

ONE NEW VAN PLEASE

Carevan is an amazing local charity that receives no funding from the government, relying on donations and the support of the Border region. In turn they feed the hungry, keep them clothed and provide a massive sense of community in these dark and uncertain times.

And right now the Border chapter needs a new van which means we've just kicked off day one of some serious fundraising with a red hot auction. And what better item to start things off with than a board game that money simply can't buy? (Well you can if you win the auction of course..)
Yes that's right, we're talking Border Monopoly!

And while it took a little time to get this auction off the ground (I was ready to jump in with an opening of $50) by the end of the show out it went to one lucky board game lover for a very impressive $230!

That's a great start to a hopefully bumper few weeks of fundraising!

Enjoy your day and chat again tomorrow!

The true meaning of Flo Rida's song 'Whistle'..

The whistle song? What's it about? Read on! Controversial I know but I'm about to reveal the true meaning behind the Whistle song by Flo Rida. Why? Because I'm getting the general feeling that people around me are really missing the true spirit of Mr Rida's epic masterpiece... We're getting right into the real Flo, yo. After all this time, it's still all about that wisal baby song!

Mortal Engines for the Emperor!

Now maybe it's just me and maybe I've read far too much into the Warhammer 40K lore and universe...but I'm seeing a lot of parallels between it and the now available on Netflix movie Mortal Engines..

Please don't ignore this massage

It's been a while between scam emails - life has been life, work has been hectic, I've been grunting and sweating my way through my exercise sessions and so I've been putting responding to random idiots through my email on the back burner.  Until today when I was kindly asked not to 'ignore this massage.' I hope it's a hot stone one! Trust me, I NEVER ignore a massage. Better set the record straight then...
