The Breakfast Radio Diaries 122 - Be one with the bed

I came home today, cooked a meal and jumped straight back into bed. I'm learning a lot of new things across 2022 and not all of them are good...

OH HERE WE GO AGAIN

It starts with a tingle in the back of the throat, then a cough and then we're off to the races. Up until this year I'd never heard of Storm Asthma but over the last few weeks I've suffered through a few bouts, cursing this damn condition of mine, pollen and the awful weather we've been having that all jumps into the same car and drives right into my circulation system. And for a couple of hours last night circa midnight, I was coughing my heart out trying to get it under control while attempting to not wake the rest of the house and get some much needed sleep.
So you could imagine after that how overflowing I was with sleep energy ready to headbutt the day into submission. Yeah no. First stop after the show was to get another preventer refill because this nasty bugger is really difficult to ease when it takes hold and prevention seems better than a cure.

For the record the two hours in bed didn't cause me to back flip out of it in a deft display of energization but it did make me feel slightly better. I can concentrate enough to right this for example and not fall over in a screaming heap when I went to go and pick up the kids from school. This is a very good thing.

(Now to explain the picture above, I could have put up a picture of a bed but I've opted for a snap of band Semisonic instead due to their rocking song Bed. It's obviously not about doing much sleeping but it's one of the better Bed songs out there that I'm aware of..)

FOUR ON, THREE OFF

So recently the state of Victoria flagged the possible idea of a four day working week, making Thursday the new Friday. Or maybe Sunday the new Monday. Either way, you work a few more hours each day to cover what you're contracted to do and three day weekends become the norm. Interestingly when we talked about it on the show today and put it out to the people for their opinion, most respondents couldn't see it as a positive thing:

-'That wouldn't work for transport.' (And probably wouldn't work for the breakfast shift on radio either to be honest..)

-'What next, money for nothing?'

-'It's going to be great, paying an extra 25% to tradies.'

Early reports from the companies trialling this concept have reported better productivity and people happier to be at work - considering we're reading about how after two years of iso madness and social distancing, people now putting job satisfaction above all else in their employment means that if you don't fact that into business life anymore, prepare to have to fill some vacancies.

Covid certainly changed the way we look at everything didn't it?

THUMBS DOWN TO THUMBS UP

Stop your grinning, you'll probably be outlawed soon.

Apparently the thumbs up emoji in everything from text messages to Facebook messenger is seen as passive aggressive behaviour in the younger generation. Really? It's not an agonisingly slow patronising thumbs up nor is it the middle finger (no confusing that one) but apparently it's gone past a simple 'Okay' and stupidly easy way to respond that you've read what someone has written.
Sorry, but if you're getting offended by a simple thumbs up that's probably been used since man first out what to do with possible thumbs, you really need to find something far more important to focus your time and angst on.

Like why is the poo emoji happy when it's still a turd?

And who turned the eggplant meaning into something other than an eggplant?

Ahh the world's gone nuts.

Wake me when it's fixed itself please, I've got some sleep to catch up on.

The true meaning of Flo Rida's song 'Whistle'..

The whistle song? What's it about? Read on! Controversial I know but I'm about to reveal the true meaning behind the Whistle song by Flo Rida. Why? Because I'm getting the general feeling that people around me are really missing the true spirit of Mr Rida's epic masterpiece... We're getting right into the real Flo, yo. After all this time, it's still all about that wisal baby song!

Mortal Engines for the Emperor!

Now maybe it's just me and maybe I've read far too much into the Warhammer 40K lore and universe...but I'm seeing a lot of parallels between it and the now available on Netflix movie Mortal Engines..

Please don't ignore this massage

It's been a while between scam emails - life has been life, work has been hectic, I've been grunting and sweating my way through my exercise sessions and so I've been putting responding to random idiots through my email on the back burner.  Until today when I was kindly asked not to 'ignore this massage.' I hope it's a hot stone one! Trust me, I NEVER ignore a massage. Better set the record straight then...
