'This is what radio should be like' -Lu, after the week that was.
Over 6.5k raised for charity, a time trip back to the 80's and Dangerfield (the lawnmower, not the player) is still louder than hell.
Thank god it's Friday.
GOING, GOING, GONE.
It was our last Border Monopoly auction today for Carevan and once again the Border did not disappoint. Starting off with an $80 opening bid it soon hit $250, then $300 and with seconds to go before the show ended, it finished up at $550.
Which means after five solid days of red hot auctions and bids, our limited edition games have ranged from $230 up to $5000 each. #unbelievable.
It not only exceeded our expectations for the auctions (by many many country miles), it also put on a massive grin upon the faces of the Carevan team. And considering how hard they've been working over the last few COVID and price rise affected years, they definitely deserved one.
(Special shout out to Neil the collector from the UK who was part of the bidding across the week. While he may have missed out on a copy in the end, it was great to chat with him on air.)
MARTY, WE'VE GOT TO GO BACK!
If you could time travel back to the 80s, what would you buy? (Yeah that was the inspiration for the photoshop above..)
It's a massive question (because there's so much to shop for) but the Border suggested:
-Air Jordan shoes. $60 back in 1985 and I googled up a pair today from that era fetching over $200,000 US. For shoes. Un-freakin-believable.
-All that 80's early gaming goodness. Stuff like sealed Mario Bros games and the original Nintendo Entertainment System in a box. God only knows what Rob the Nintendo Robot is worth nowadays (his name was Rob wasn't it?)
-Transformers. Optimus Prime and Megatron especially.
-Land, land and even more land. I'd buy into the Gold Coast, Lu suggested Byron Bay with 80's prices would be ideal. Especially when you try to buy anything in either place now..
-80's cars. I mention the Series V Rx7 yesterday but things like Toranas, Gemini's, Escorts and the like are worth a bomb now. Hell I wouldn't mind some of the original Turbo Laser Tx3s because outside of a car show, they're not a common sight at all anymore (and a Turbo 4WD Laser would be stupid amounts of fun to punt around in..)
-Shares. Especially Apple and IBM early on.
-Star Wars Toys
-Ra ra skirts and bubble gum jeans
-An XY GTHO Phase 3. Which looks something like this:
-And I suggested a ticket to every aussie pub gig from the 80s. Bands such as Inxs, Midnight Oil and Cold Chisel cutting their teeth and making that era for pub music unforgettable. Yes there was a high chance you'd get beer spilled on you and possible end up in a fight but hey, what amazing memories you'd have that you could brag about well past the 80s!
I PROBABLY SHOULD STOP NOW
It's been a huge week, I'm pretty knackered and sleeping across the weekend is well and truly on the cards. But yet in my quest to get my cheap lawnmower Dangerfield to better working condition (read: Quieter) here I am attempting my very first lawnmower oil change.
(And if you're looking for which oil to use on a four stroke Gardenline mower from KMart, go SAE30)
Which went...okay. A little bit messy but I'm going to go out on a limb and
suggest that from the condition of the oil in there and now out, it's been
quite some time since this has been done. And possibly not since it was bought
new. Anywhoos some fresh red looking stuff is now in there (and not coming
out) and Dangerfield....isn't any quieter sadly.
That's cheap mowers for
you.
But he might last a couple of mows longer now at least.
Time to finally land this busy plane, enjoy your weekend!
-Almigo
