The Breakfast Radio Diaries 113 - Rough start, better end

I had a decent sized asthma attack last night, ending up sounding like Thomas the Tank Engine wheezing directly after a rocket attack. The ventolin in my system gave me a strange dream of going in for experimental surgery with a doctor in the middle of a mental breakdown.

After that incredible start, what else could go possibly wrong today?

LONG FORGOTTEN ROYALTIES

Okay, it didn't take long to improve. Especially when I opened up my email and there was a note telling me money was coming that I'd completely forgotten about, which wasn't surprising given that it was for something I wrote ten years ago give or take.

Yes a long time ago I wrote for Hubpages/now Dengarden on various things and one of my articles survived the migration to the new site, getting into the good, the bad and the ugly when it came to Ozito power tools here in Australia. Incredibly ten years on there's been enough views to generate enough revenue to pass the payment threshold which up until today I didn't realise was $50 US. So that was a very nice thing to wake up to, a nice $70+ AUD after conversion on it's way to my pretty empty coffers.

So if you've been playing the internet revenue long game for a while, don't stop now! Who knows, you may just be a few views away from a surprise pay day.

Now just quickly on the Ozito side of things, I must admit that while I wasn't much of a fan of their drill options back in 2012 my tune has changed on them a lot. The battery on this model is brilliant and I've used it a tonne since grabbing it for $99 on everything from drilling holes to getting things on and off my mowers and the Slowbaru in a far quicker time.

There seems to be a few new models and offers since I bought this one last year but if you're a hobby level DIYer like I am and there's a Bunnings within reach, definitely take a look to see what they're about because this one hasn't let me down so far!

I MAY YET GET AN EMAIL

More on this Optus saga: They say the hack affected customers right back to 2016 but we heard from a couple of listeners in our broadcast area that they too received emails about the breach...and they hadn't been customers since the 90s!
Luckily most of their details have changed since then so any wayward hacker would only end up with an email address but why is Optus holding on to former customer contact details if they haven't been a customer for over 12 years now? What were they planning to do with that information if anything?

I was with Optus for my home phone (yeah back when home phone numbers were all the rage of course) circa 2002-2003 which means potentially I may still be on that email list, however...

If memory serves, it would have been in my old and now defunct Hotmail email address. I quickly googled it to see if there was a trace of my old account anywhere, but no. Which means I'll never find out if I got an email from Optus or not over this whole drama.
Obviously I'm not too concerned - it's not like I'm a stranger to random scams that come though my phone and inbox daily..

THE SUN GOES UP, THE SUN GOES DOWN

Daylight savings starts again here in Australia come Sunday morning and unless you're working with analog clocks (like the one in the car) then phones and computers will automatically update the time and move it forward the hour needed (2am becomes 3am unless you're in a state that doesn't observe the tradition.)

Can I admit that I barely remember when it starts and finishes? Yes I appreciate the more daylight at the end of each day when it's on but it's not a life changing thing if I miss out on it or the process (having worked on the Gold Coast the only issue ever caused by being in a state that didn't observe it was broadcasting to one that did - ie Tweed Heads just over the border.)

Interestingly opinion through the socials was well and truly divided - some loved it, some hated it and this guy came along:

Right that's it for today, I'm off to go and write something I can cash out on in about a decade from now. Wish me luck!

The true meaning of Flo Rida's song 'Whistle'..

The whistle song? What's it about? Read on! Controversial I know but I'm about to reveal the true meaning behind the Whistle song by Flo Rida. Why? Because I'm getting the general feeling that people around me are really missing the true spirit of Mr Rida's epic masterpiece... We're getting right into the real Flo, yo. After all this time, it's still all about that wisal baby song!

Mortal Engines for the Emperor!

Now maybe it's just me and maybe I've read far too much into the Warhammer 40K lore and universe...but I'm seeing a lot of parallels between it and the now available on Netflix movie Mortal Engines..

Please don't ignore this massage

It's been a while between scam emails - life has been life, work has been hectic, I've been grunting and sweating my way through my exercise sessions and so I've been putting responding to random idiots through my email on the back burner.  Until today when I was kindly asked not to 'ignore this massage.' I hope it's a hot stone one! Trust me, I NEVER ignore a massage. Better set the record straight then...
