I had a day off yesterday for the NSW Labor Day holiday and it was just what I needed - just to recover from the two days before! Also I think we've got enough bins now and I'm time tripping back to the arcades of old.
ROLL ALONG TO CORRYONG
A massive shout out to my best buddy Heath for an invite to the Corryong Annual show. His company was sponsoring it, he had tickets and before we could say 'Count us in' we were on the road there! (Unfortunately the on again off again heat gauge problems that have been plaguing my Slowbaru also popped up on a couple of occasions but let's not that ruin a truly fun weekend shall we?) This little weekend adventure also ticked off a first for me - trying out a camping swag in the Colac-Colac Caravan park down the road. And since Heath has been camping for longer than I've probably been blogging (and that's a long time now), I got to enjoy a top quality one too.

I'll be honest, I should have brought more doonas with me because the temperature did drop to the super cool side of things shortly after I left the lovely fire he lit but it was quite a few steps up from any and all tents I've ever owned/found myself in. And after I rose at some stupidly early hour to take advantage of the toilet block, I remembered to fish out my stupidly warm work jacket out of the car and that helped a lot!
On the show side of things, congratulations to the organisers for a terrific day out. After finding out the rides we free we couldn't crowbar Jackson away from the mechanical bull without the lure of food or drink:
Whereas Sophie loudly proclaimed that riding a pony meant the day was now the best day ever. A shout out to Cricket the Pony for helping out there.
As expected the dog show was nothing short of entertaining:
@alshieldwrites Some very clever #dogs at the #Corryong show! #showtime #dogjump #dogsoftiktok #dogjumping #australia ♬ original sound - Alshieldwrites
But I also truly appreciated the catch up after it was all said and done - two mates talking about whatever was on their mind, a crisp night, a roaring fire - the conversation just flowed. And I love those kinds of chats too. Sometimes it can be a great reset session and very therapeutic, especially if it's been a while since the last one. 'What did you talk about?' Asked my wife. 'Guy stuff.' Summed it up perfectly. Leave it at that, it was just what I needed - thanks always Heath!
ANOTHER BIN FOR THE COLLECTION
So let me paint the picture on our bin system here in Southern NSW. We have:
-A red lidded bin. It's for rubbish and crap you can't recycle. It's also tiny to encourage you to recycle and separate your garbage. Which probably works well if you're not a busy family of four who can generate plenty of stuff post recycling to fill up this mini bin.
-A yellow lidded bin. It's for recyclables including glass bottles, cans, hard plastics and cardboard. Do not put soft plastics in this thing otherwise you'll get a note from the people who pick them up explaining that they're less than impressed, you're on your first strike and if you do this two more times then they're not going to touch your bin for the next two cycles. Don't ask me how I know this, suffice to say I haven't pushed my luck to end up on yellow bin exodus just yet.
-A green lidded bin. If it rots naturally, it can go in this one. So when you mow the lawn, prune the vines, cut down the palms or murder the daisies, they all end up here. Conveniently if you cat keeps killing wildlife, they can also be place to rest in this one. Pizza boxes can go in this one (crust or spare slices optional) as long as you remove the foil from the garlic bread.
But soon to come (on the Victorian side of the border) a possible purple bin!
-The one's for glass. Think jam jars and empty bottles of Great Northern, pasta sauce jars and empty jars of Nescafe. But thinking on this, we as a family don't throw out too much glass to begin with (any glass bottles usually end up in the local recycling machine down the road for some extra cash). Which means it'd take quite a while for us to fill one to the point where it needed to be picked up and cleared out..
But why stop there? Let's get a bin for everything! A few suggestions:
Burnt Umber - For worn out car parts and filters
Orange - Chicken bones
Magenta - Cheese scraps
Perriwinkle blue - animal poo
Chrome - Champagne corks
Mud Brown - Excess caviar
Chartreuse - Ear buds
Amber - Junk mail
Jet black - Used 3d printer filament...
And so on..
FINALLY, INSERT COIN HERE
It's no surprise I've thoroughly enjoy the old school gaming experiences coughed up by my Mame project recently. So much so, that I'm thinking of putting a few of these Arcade flashbacks complete with commentary up on Youtube. I mean I've already created my first ever YouTube short and obviously the sky is the limit from here!
Yes once the kids go back to school next week (so I can do things without getting interrupted with continual requests for snacks) look out for Al's Arcade coming soon where I'll take you through plenty of games you missed and what makes then so very amusing all this time later. Updates when they come!
Chat soon!
