The Breakfast Radio Diaries 047: The sea breeze when there's no water around

A long time ago when petrol was affordable and I had hair I could actually style into the shape of something, I lived and worked in beautiful Warnambool where a trip to the foreshore was less than five minutes drive away. And in my single days, I quite enjoyed walking along the foreshore at dusk, even when it was wet and miserable. I had my jacket and my disc man and off I went in my own little world, really bumping into another person on those wooden walkways.  Today when I stepped out of work, I was hit by a cold bust of wind that felt like I was right back there. A punch of frozen air carried far over the sea and magnified in its coldness by the crashing waves.  The problem there is, I live and work in Albury NSW now and we're a good five hours away from the nearest ocean doorstop. Welcome to the polar blast people..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 046: Hold on while you pass Go and collect $200

I watched a listener of the show win $10,000 playing a giant game of Monopoly and then watched people crawl all over motorcycles while racing around a race track at high speed.  Then I tried to sleep and get ready for another big week on the breakfast show!

Bash for the Border - Round 11 - Late for my own funeral

So there's been a lot on outside my world of fantasy football this week. Work primarily, a trip to Melbourne for medical reasons, more work when I got back, an overheating Subaru (still) and annoying bills that want to get paid. The good news is, I did swap some things around for the Flavorless Flav's this week, I just haven't updated the rest of the world about it until now.  So this (late) week: A former captain is captain again. The injuries have been benched.  And a 10 year old swapped one of my players out on a whim..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 045: Nice to meet you, again.

Some interviews are a one off. I once interviewed Brad Pitt's personal trainer about his book and he told the tale of working his obliques by swinging a ten pound bar repeatedly into a heavy bag. Then there's someone like Diesel who I've chatted to/interviewed many times, each and everytime just as good as the last. Today fell into that later category because I remember chatting to this bloke years ago about a cancer fund-raiser, after taking on Australia via unicycle. The cycle has been replaced by a big car this time but his passion for what he does is just as strong, if not stronger than it ever was. There's passion for life and then there's Samuel Johnson who just blows it right out of the water.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 044: How much did you say it was?

The tale of a $20 ham sandwich, a $32 bowl of chicken and sweetcorn soup and a tiny $15 taco..

Nada Fajita Torpedoes - Meet the team!

So a short time ago I revealed that I went looking for bargain priced NFTs and somehow wound up running my own block chain soccer club, having no idea about anything including the game, the team or what the hell I'm doing on the site every time I log in. So what could possibly go wrong here? While we work that out, let's meet the team!

Nada Fajita Tornados - my NFT soccer team

I went searching for an affordable NFT...and came back with a soccer team? What in the blue hells is going on here?

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 043: Not walking wounded, just sore

Facebook seems angry today. It must be a Monday..

The Breakfast Radio Dairies 042: There's always time for tea

And scones, equally as important. Especially with jam and cream.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 041: Frozen for the future

It was just 1 degree Celsius (that's 33.8 F for those not down under) when I swung by the roundabout near the Elders East Albury clock and weather display this morning. I would have stopped to take a picture of it only I didn't really want to suddenly be flash frozen to the ground, an ice monument and snapshot of Autumn in Albury 2022 for countless future generations to enjoy while they whizzed by on Snowpiercer..

Bash for the Border - Round 10 - Just an average coach, doing average thangs..

Desperate times call for desperate measures. And with a hilariously awful 11% winning rate so far this season, these here be desperate times...

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 040: Free Mike Oldfield

No Mike's not incarcerated somewhere (that I'm aware of) it's just that my Subaru is now refusing to let go of his Man on the Rocks album for some reason. Also how good is a hot coffee when someone else pays for it?

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 039: Many keys to unknown locks

37 Allen keys, all the same size. Three metal shishkabob skewers. A handful of chopstick rests. Lots of keys that don't unlock anything nearby. Many batteries, unknown condition. And a bunch of instruction booklets that have never been read. The contents of the world's s**test time capsule? Nay, it's the contents of our junk drawer in the kitchen currently.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 038: Thingamabobs and whosijggers

There's an exhibit on in town about those old objects that most people have never seen before that once upon served a particular purpose but now just take up space in your kitchen drawer. And since their names are easily forgotten, they become whosijiggers. Or thingamabobs. Or whosiwhatsits. Of if you're like me, the more aptly put 'That f-ing part that connects to that other thingijig' when attempting to explain to my father in law the latest issue with my Slowbaru. Lu brought up that she is the proud owner of a pie crimper. But has never made, baked, nor crimped a pie in her life..

Saturday - a basic RPG

You wake in the dark on a deflating Eurobed. Conversation is coming out a nearby kitchen and nearby someone lets out a fart followed by a chorus of coughs. >CHECK TIME ON PHONE You really don't want to know..

Bash for The Border - Round 9 - The curse of coaching

Like plans for my pay packet each and every week, something unexpected always pops up and ruins things last minute. It's no different in this god-awful coaching experience either as I walked in with a full team and just before game time the captain fell over.. Seriously, can I jump out of this idiot plane now?

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 037: No rest for the wicked

I'm channeling my dad today - the time he walked down Victoria Street Richmond blissfully unaware he was wearing odd shoes, like I've found myself doing today. And come to think of it, given his 3am starts he too probably got dressed in the dark like I do now..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 036: How the rocks tumble

It was raining when I woke up half an hour before the alarm went off, that oh so satisfying sound when you're in a warm bed, snuggled under a doona. Add that to the knowledge that I still had a solid 30 minutes to just lay there and drift in and out of sleep before it was game time - ahh bliss. Then the alarm went off, there was the stumble around the darkened laundry to try and find some fresh clothes, a shower where I stood like a zombie, getting dressed in the dark and the slog up to the wet driveway to the car where there's just enough petrol to get me to work and back while I count down the hours to pay day tonight. It's still raining as I write this but as they used to say, the show must go on!

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 035: There simply is no going back

Can cats get Covid? Also how good are hotdogs and can I borrow a time machine for ten minutes? I need to give previous me a bit of advice..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 034: Hack, strum, grimace.

Lu's back, life is now easy(er). Also buskers, hackers and dud presents!

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 033: Crankybook

I post things, people get angry. It seems a few people woke up on the wrong side of the morgue today..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 032: Write it down, then go

Captains log, entry 32. I seem to be experiencing a blurred moments effect currently where as soon as I finish one thing on air, it blurs right into the next. By the time three hours flashes by in what feels like half that time, I find myself wondering what just happened.  In conclusion, I believe this is what's called a 'pretty busy Friday.'

A blender at the Tender?

Well there probably was a blender in amongst everything else in there if you looked hard enough - Welcome to the Tender Centre Wodonga . The consignment shed with anything and everything as I joyfully discovered one free afternoon recently.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 031: More a girl fight than a tussle

After a few shortened weeks, I keep thinking today is Friday. And as I write this at home, I can hear the tilers working on a job next door. On the other side of my house the fencing guys are busy working on an install. So that means it's a case of:  Tilers to the left of me Fencers to the right Here I am, writing a blog post for you. Thank you, you've been a great audience, tip the veal.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 030: Down with a sickness?

 Look, I've felt better..

Bash for the Border round 8 - Surprise advice

I'm okay when it comes to working on cars. Thanks to a willingness to roll up the sleeves and give things a go, coupled with copious amounts of Googling and forum lurking, I recently sorted out an overheating issue and heavy fuel consumption drama in my Subaru. For those problems beyond my understand or tool set, I consult a mechanic or if he's around, my father in law Baz. They know they're stuff and get me back on the road before I know it. Likewise here in coaching - this season has proved without a shadow of a doubt, I'm completely out of my depth here. But thankfully some random Supercoach chat around the office netted me some timely advice.  Enough to score a win? Perhaps, but let's not get too carried away..

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 029: I'm not saying it's cold but....

When the temperature drops to single digits, boy oh boy am I glad of being able to drive to work again. Yes the in car entertainment system may just be the pride of 2005 when the rest of the wagon came out and have as many options as a true or false question, but it works. Even better, the heater works too. Because I know it's only a matter of time before I start to find White Walkers sunning themselves on my bonnet at 5am when I crawl up my own driveway.

The Breakfast Radio Diaries 028: Covid rears its ugly head

Sadly not a timely remix of the classic 90's jam from Living Color but an update on studio life at the moment. Lu's out with Covid, our back up Rohan has also taken a hit and I'm doing the impossible mission of getting an empty room to react to anything.
